Santa Lucia

Monday 13th December

Today the Second Grade led the school in the celebration of the beautiful festival honoring Santa Lucia.  It is our school tradition for a Second Grade girl, dressed all in white with a red sash and a crown of candles on her head, to lead the procession of the rest of the class, also dressed in white.  The children visit every classroom with a basket of warm buns, symbolizing warmth and light in this cold, dark season.  The festival is based on a tale from Sweden.

  1. Oh my. I fear that in four years, Quinn will either be deliriously happy to be that girl wearing the crown of candles or bitterly resentful that it’s not her. Perhaps I should begin preparing her for that now.
